RTAC Webinar: Incorporating GIS and remotely sensed data to estimate the impacts of renewable energy and energy technologies. Example from Nepal.
Estimating the impacts of programs is often constrained by data availability, particularly in remote and rural areas. GIS and remotely sensed data can provide data on outcome measures facilitating such analyses. This can be helpful in estimating the impacts of renewable energy technologies, which can be deployed as a way to increase energy access in rural areas. We provide examples from studies of biogas and microhydro in Nepal to illustrate some benefits – and challenges – of using remotely sensed and GIS data for impact evaluations in these settings.
